What is the difference between traditional LEDs?
The COB LED Wall is a revolutionary technology that addresses the limitations of traditional LED displays. In traditional LED displays, multiple colors (Red, Green, and Blue) are packaged into a single Surface Mounted Devices (SMD) LED component. These components are then soldered onto a PCB in an array to form an LED wall module.
However, as pixel pitch decreases below P1.8, the number of SMD LED components increases significantly. This leads to issues such as fragile soldering points that can break easily and limited heat dissipation due to small contact areas.
COB (Chip-on-Board) technology is the solution to these problems. With COB LED Wall Display, LED chips are directly bonded onto the PCB using high precision manufacturing techniques. An epoxy layer is added to protect the bonding, eliminating several steps involved in SMD technology. This streamlined process improves yield rates and addresses the limitations of traditional LED displays.
Advantages
As COB has continuous epoxy layer, which can provide high protection from dust, water, and impact force, while there are only has 4 soldering points between each individual SMD package and PCB
Flip-chip COB will save the step of wire bonding, which results in a more higher effective luminous area under the same chip size, 20% energy saving & reduce temperature rise. As there is no bonding wire over light path block the light.
Flip-clip COB will have 40% larger luminous chip size, which can contribute to higher peak brightness up to 2000cd/m. Higher black occupancy contributes to 4 times higher contrast.
